DVDs? Digital files? Web Stream? Not in this program. When was the last time anyone watched a movie on the silver screen that was actually shot on film?
CIFF presents an afternoon 16mm film demonstration for students of all ages with appropriate discussions about the importance of storytelling and a film projector history lesson. The films are suitable for all ages and presented in collaboration with the Laramie County Library children’s programs. The event is free, but donations will be accepted and contributed to the Laramie County Library foundation.
Legend of Sleepy Hollow – Classic animated story in this spirited retelling of the Washington Irving favorite, narrated and sung by the legendary Bing Crosby. It’s the fearsome tale of Ichabod Crane and his encounters with ‘The Headless Horseman”. Comedy and suspense build to a heart-stopping climax in this thrilling and timeless folk story!
The Red Balloon – In Paris, a French schoolboy makes friends with a red balloon and vice-versa, with the balloon following him around like a pet. It stays out of the reach of other would-be captors, but a gang of boys destroys it eventually. Then other balloons of various sizes and colors descend on the boy from all parts of Paris, and together they lift him into the sky and take him away over the horizon. The film is based on a children’s short story and won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 1957.
Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too – This third entry in Disney’s animated-featurette series based on A. A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh tales was also the first directed by someone other than Wolfgang Reithermann.
Rabbit is tired of Tigger always bouncing him, so he get’s Pooh and Piglet together to come up with an idea to get the bounce out of Tigger. Rabbit suggests they take him into the middle of nowhere and leave him overnight.
The idea backfires and Rabbit, Piglet and Pooh find themselves lost, but Pooh’s tummy guides them home. Then, Tigger and Roo go out for a bounce and get caught in a tree, which Tigger is too afraid to get out of, and Rabbit makes Tigger promise that if they help get Tigger down, that Tigger can never bounce again.
So Tigger is rescued and feels sad that he can no longer bounce, but everyone, including Rabbit, agrees they liked the old bouncy Tigger better. As ever, Sterling Holloway voices Winnie.
